Of Doordarshan, Play grounds and Story Books

To sing in the tune of ..These are a few of my favourite things from the movie Sound of Music

Pen Pals and Greeting Cards, sharing scrap books with best friends
Play ground with bicycles and Band Aids on bruised hands

Running Bare feet, breathing easy without a care in the world
God, let me go back to this wonderful world!

Circulating Libraries with their aromatic woody smells
Reading was a habit with Nancy Drew and Twinkle

Growing up was easy in the Enid Blyton world
God, let me go back to this wonderful world!

LPs and Audio Tapes, full of melodies and sweet tunes
Watching movies on car bumpers in  Drive-in theatres

All these are memories laced with finery so old
God, let me go back to this wonderful world!

Doordarshan, chayageet and phool khile hain gulshan
Chitrahaar, sunday movies, Ek Titli and Films Division

All these are still fresh like pages of my memoirs unfold
God, let me go back to this wonderful world!

The roads were so friendly with old Fiats and Ambassadors
Taxis were a luxury, Maruti Suzuki the young one

Double decker buses with necks that could turn
God, let me go back to this wonderful world!

Pencils and sharpeners and compass with rulers,
Algebra, Geometry and Set Squares, Protractors

Never ending tuition classes and the fuzzy home work world
God, let me go back to this wonderful world!

Skipping ropes, whirling wooden tops and my favourite gang of seven
Dabba I spy, chor police and playing lagori was solid fun

Sports Days in school and Swimming in winter mornings was brrr cold
God, let me go back to this wonderful world!

Amar Citra Katha, Famous Five and Archies was so cool
Sharing with pals was fine but losing them uncool

Pepsi colas, ganna juice, vada paav we would drool
God, let this fool revisit and unwind the memory spool.

So when I am feeling low, under the weather and the mood is a little sour, sad
I simply go back to this wonderful world and then I am upbeat and go crazy ........a tad!
